The "Workers Insurance Institution Hospital", as would be referred to by the name of the district where it was established for many years, was built on 28 604 square meters, with a capacity of 560 beds on 16/01/1960 in Samatya.
On January 16, 1960 the 'Workers Insurance Institution Hospital' was opened in a ceremony with the attendance of then-President Celal Bayar, Refik Koraltan the President of the National Assembly and Haluk Şaman the Labour Minister. Because of both the construction technique and the tools and equipments it had "the most modern hospital in the Balkans" of the time started its mission with a total of 557 employees; 100 doctors, 65 nurses and 339 allied health staff and 53 other staff.
First Chief Physician was Dr. Mahir güvençer. Dr. Saim Aksan was appointed as Chief of Medical Staff in the same year and held this position until the end of 1975.
In the following years the hospital name was amended as "The Social Insurance InstitutioN Istanbul Hospital.”
In 1975, Surgeon Mucahit ATMANOĞLU began his career as Chief of Medical Staff, and retired in 1996.
In 1978, the first Hemodialysis Center with 8 machines was put into service in S.S.K. Health Facilities.
A nursery fro children of employees was opened in 1988 and has continued to serve till the present day.
In 1985, the nurse lodgings, staff restaurant and the polyclinic were built and the number of beds was increased to 804 by providing an additional floor.
Coronary Intensive Care Unit was opened by President Kenan Evren in 1988.
In 1992, Surgeon M. Fazil Yazıcı served as Chief of Medical Staff for 5 months.
Between 1996 - 2000 Assoc. Dr. Mustafa CANİKLİOĞLU worked as Chief of Medical Staff. During this period, the blood center, 5 bedded Post-Op Intensive Care Unit, Laboratory of Pathology were renewed and began to serve. Tomography device was put into service, Endoscopy Unit was opened. In addition, the majority of the construction the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit was completed.
In the years 2000 - 2004 Associate Professor Dr. Gazi ZORER served as the Chief of Medical Staff. In this period the Emergency unit was restructured, the polyclinic was transferred to Osmaniye and the Central Polyclinic was used for hospital services and Special Branch Operations. Tterilization unit was established in 2001. Security Services, Consulting Services and the Public Relations Unit began their services. In 2002 "TS-EN ISO - 9000 Quality Assurance Certificate" was given to the hospital. In 2003 the number of intensive care beds was increased to 12 by and Intensive Care Unit was moved to the ground floor. In addition, 4 Emergency Operation rooms were opened under the Emergency Department.
